The successful event of the Operation of Strategic Importance “BorPres2”, held on 5 June 2025 at the Prespes Town Hall in Laimos, Region of Western Macedonia (Northern Greece), with the presence of the Ministers of Interior of the two cooperating countries, Greece, Theodoros Livanios, and North Macedonia, Panche Toshkovski, marks the official start of the construction works for a new border crossing.
The operation of strategic importance in the Prespes area, with a budget of 7.5 million euros and a timeline of 36 months, is being implemented within the framework of the “Interreg VI-A IPA Greece – North Macedonia 2021-2027” Programme, co-funded by the EU.
The opening event was also attended by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, sector of Macedonia and Thrace, Konstantinos Gioulekas, the EU Ambassador in North Macedonia, Michalis Rokas, the Regional Governor of Western Macedonia, Giorgos Amanatidis, and other Regional and Local government officials.
It is worth mentioning that the journey between the Greek town of Laimos in the Florina regional unit (Region of Western Macedonia) and North Macedonia’s Markova Noga will drop from over 2 hours now to just 40 minutes, encouraging cross-border mobility, tourism activity, cultural interaction and economic development.
