Cross-Border Solutions for a Resilient Future
The recent kick‑off meeting of the EU-funded project BREATH (19–20 February 2026) in Athens, hosted at the Hellenic Ministry for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the project’s Lead Partner, marks a significant step in fostering cooperation on disaster risk prevention and resilience between Greece and Italy.
BREATH is an Operation of Strategic Importance that aims to:
🔹 improve disaster preparedness and risk prevention strategies
🔹 enhance early warning systems and monitoring tools
🔹 pilot joint infrastructure and risk mitigation actions
🔹 strengthen institutional capacity and cross‑border collaboration
The project, implemented under the “Interreg VI‑A Greece–Italy 2021–2027” programme, brings together a strong partnership, including national authorities, regional bodies, and civil protection agencies from both countries. BREATH demonstrates how territorial cooperation can translate into tangible actions that protect communities, critical infrastructure, and the environment in shared border regions.
The Managing Authority Interreg 2021-2027 (MA) supports initiatives that foster resilience and practical solutions through cross‑border cooperation. The Managing Authority (ΜΑ) was represented at the kick-off meeting by Mr. kiriakos Fotiadis, Head of Unit B of the MA.
