“Greece – The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 2007-2013”

The IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme “Greece-The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia 2007-2013” was approved by the European Commission on 05/09/2008 by Decision C(2008)4717/05-09-2008.  

Budget

The total budget of the Programme is 31,549,723 € (20,072,594 € + 11,477,129 €). For Greece the budget is 20,072,594 € (the total financing consists of 15,054,445 € - 75% EU funding – ERDF and 5,018,149 € - 25% national contribution. For the same actions in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia the total budget is 11,477,129 €. The total financing consists of 9,755,560 € - 85% EU funding - IPA and 1,721,569 € - 15% national contribution.

Eligible area

The eligible area of the Programme consists of the Region of Western Macedonia (Prefecture of Florina) and the Region of Central Macedonia (Prefectures of Pella, Kilkis, Serres and Thessaloniki) in Greece and the Planning Regions of Pelagonia, Vardar, Southeast and Southwest in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The Prefecture of Thessaloniki in Greece and the Southwest Planning Region in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia have been included as adjacent areas.

Global Objective – Strategic objectives

Τhe global objective of the “Greece-the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia” IPA Cross-Border Programme 2007-2013 is “to enhance convergence in the Programme area by promoting sustainable local development”.

This global objective will be achieved through the following strategic priorities:

  • Strategic Priority 1: Enhancement of cross-border economic development
  • Strategic Priority 2: Enhancement of environmental resources and the cultural heritage of the Programme area

Priority Axes

These two Strategic Priorities are defined in the relevant Priority Axes, with more Measures for each one of them that are the following:

  • Priority Axis 1: “Enhancement of cross-border economic development”
    • Measure 1.1: Economic Development
    • Measure 1.2: Enhancement of Human Resources
    • Measure 1.3: Promotion of sustainable tourism
    • Measure 1.4: Protection of human life
  • Priority Axis 2: Enhancement of the environmental resources and cultural heritage of the eligible border area
    • Measure 2.1: Promotion and protection of the environmental resources of the area
    • Measure 2.2: Promotion and protection of the natural and cultural heritage of the area
  • Priority Axis 3: “Technical Assistance”
